Lecture 3 Flashcards
How did substrate oxidation (%) differ pre and post 4 week endurance training?
% lipid oxidation increased, carb and protein decreased
Daily protein intake, with adjustment during calorie restriction
1.2-2.0g/kg, increase during calorie restriction by around 0.6g/kg
Behnke model
Two component model:
1. Fat mass (only nonessential fat)
2. Lean body (includes essential fat)
Brozek/Siri model
- Fat mass (includes essential fat)
- Fat free mass
Chemical model
- Fat/protein/carbs
- Water
- Minerals (Na, K, Ca, etc.)
- Metals (Fe, Hb, etc.)
Anatomical model
-Muscle
-Organs
-Bone
-Connective tissue
-Nervous tissue
Essential vs non-essential fat storage
Essential fat:
Heart, kidneys, CNS, intestines, etc.
Non-essential fat:
Adipose tissue
-Subcutaneous (beneath skin)
-Visceral (deep, between organs)
kcal/L O2 for fat vs carbs
Carbs: 5.05kcal/L
Fat: 4.69kcal/L
