Lecture 11 Flashcards
CSEP blood pressure hypertension cutoff
144/94
Men vs women hypertension
Men have higher prevalence until menopause, where women prevalence increases
How do B-blockers affect HR/BP?
They inhibit sympathetic NS effects (epinephrine/norepinephrine release), slowing down HR and decreasing BP
Coronary artery disease vs artherosclerosis
Both are caused by a plaque buildup in arteries cutting off blood flow, but CAD is specifically in coronary arteries
True or False: Lactate buildup increases faster for those with heart disease during exercise
True!
What’s a stent?
Small mesh tube inserted into artery to help keep it open
Fontan procedure (dysfunctional left ventricle)
Surgery to bypass left ventricle, sending blood from lower body straight to the lungs
How to repair Tetralogy of Fallot (ventricular septal defect)
Put a patch on the ventricular septal
Claudication
Pain in periphery due to O2 shortage (Can be from rom arterial disease in periphery)
Thrombus vs Embolus
Thrombus: Blood clot that forms in vessel
Embolus: Clot that forms and breaks off then travels through vessels until it gets stuck
