What is the renaissance?

A

The renaissance is a time period from 14th to 17th century. During this time period society went back to ancient times and made it into something new and formative. Shaping Europe into what it is today. It was the rebirth of the value of the ancients.

A

People during this time were producing and manufacturing a lot of products and they were very good merchants (dealers)

A

Because they became wealthier. > Became more critical of the world and thought that life should be enjoyed more. Began in Italy

A

They realised that they’re version of Christianity was different then that from the Byzantine’s.

How did Western Europeans realise the differences ?

A

people from Byzantine brought their version of the bible with them (the correct version). Rich merchants became exposed to this version and compared their version to theirs and learned the truth.

How did Humanism begin?

A

Humanism began trough a series of events:
Byzantine scholars brought ancient text with them such as that of Aristotle. To read this you needed to be able to read Latin and Greek > People were interested in Byzantine text and started learning these languages to understand the text they Brought over. > By reading and understanding these text people became more critical they could compare material and see where the church imposed their own ideas.

What concept became big during the renaissance and why?

A

Realism. The renaissance went back to the Greek and Roman time. During this time period people did not worship men like the christians did. It was about seeing people in the state they were ment to be. People created by nature not people who created themselves to gods.

How did Protestantism grow during this time period?

A

In 1439 the printing press was created by Gutenberg. This was a big deal because the printing press allowed people access to knowledge, literature and the bible. The printing press empowered people because it gave them access to knowledge which gave them access to form their own opinions on matters. The individual became empowered.
