Lecture 26- Intro to Tumor Biology Flashcards

1
Q

Differentiation is?

A

when cells become different to one another.
Embryo:
Early cells similar. Then they differentiate into 3 germ layers. Then cells further differentiate within these layers.

Post Embryonic:
Occurs at level of cells.
Maturation of differentiated cells from proliferative cells.

Involves

  • inactivation o proliferative genes
  • activation of special function genes

Q

Disorders of growth

A

Embryo = malformations
-these occur in utero, eg) collection of abnormal blood vessels

Post-natal = abnormalities of
tissue function and tissue mass

Clinical Implications:
-Not all are disorders
