lecture 26 Flashcards
1
Q
reaction to first bee sting
A
venom proteins circulate in blood when stung which causes pain, redness and swelling
-body produces antibodies (Ig’s)
2
Q
subsequent bee stings
A
severity depends on relative amounts of r antibodies (IgG’s and IGes)
- IgG in large amounts quickly bind to von antigens and neutralize
- reaction decreases with more stings because concentration of IgG increases in blood (IMMUNITY)
- if IgG’s are low and IgEs are present then mast cells rupture and release histamines = hypersensitivity to bee venom and run occurs
3
Q
bee venom therapy
A
treating hypersensitivity to venom
- challenge hyperalergic individual by increasing amount of been venom each time 2-3 times a week
4
Q
medicinal properties of venom
A
rheumatoid arthritis
-MS– improved circulation, increased mobility, improve double vision
