What is the social model of disability?
the social model of disability focuses more on the barriers people with disabilities face and how it impacts them. looks at how the experience of a disability is impaired/impacted by an environment
What is the medial model of disability?
this model focuses on the individual, and seeks to find the disability within and what it is caused by. suggests that the problem is caused and sits within an individual and wants to try and fix the disability
What is person-first language (PFL)?
“person with autism”
- often used by medical professions and people without the condition
What is identity-first language (IFL)?
“autistic person”
- often preferred by people with autism or a condition
What is the social camouflaging method of assimulation?
actively trying to behave like others around them
What is the social camouflaging method of compensation?
this is when a person actively compensates for difficulties they face
What is the social camouflaging method of masking?
trying to hide neurodivergent traits
