What is stigma?
stigma is a negative social label or mark of disgrace associated with a particular characteristic, condition, or behaviour, leading to discrimination, prejudice or social disapproval
What are some examples of stigmatised conditons?
- AIDS/HIV

- Leprosy
- Epilepsy

How is mental illness impacted by stigma?
people with mental illness deal with lots of stigma, which makes life even more difficult
How does contact help to combat stigma?
interacting with people who have a stigmatised condition, helps to break down prejudice
How does education help to combat stigma?
providing people education and information to change their views towards a condition
How does protest help to combat stigma?
often community driven, challenging the way the condition is shown in the media
