Q

How do you recognise Lymphocytes?

A

They are vertebrates.
They are found mostly in Lymph nodes.
It is the main cell of adaptive immunity.

Q

What do Phagocytes do?

A

Phagocytes engulf bacteria by reorganising there ACTIN CYTOSKELETON around the bacteria, forming a CUP, internalising the bacteria and digesting them.

Q

What do Lymphocytes do?

A

They are activated by antigens from foreign materials, and create antibodies (taking part in adaptive immunity)

Q

What does Eosinophils do?

A

When bound to a Parasite, it releases a toxic protein that can also damage your lungs (asthma)

Q

What do Basophils/Mast cells do?

A

Contact with PARASITES or ALLERGENS causes the release of GRANULES such as CYTOKINES which expel the parasites/allergens but also causes ALLERGY symptoms.

15
Q

Which cells do Platelets/Thrombocytes differentiate from?

A

Megakaryocytes

16
Q

What does too much or too little platelets cause?

A

Too much: clotting in bloodstream

Too little: bleeding

17
Q

What do platelets/thrombocytes secrete?

A

TGFBeta
PDGF

They

  • stimulate COLLAGEN production.
  • recruit inflammatory cells from the blood.
