Q

How does the complimentary system work?

A
  • INACTIVE plasma PROTEINS are ACTIVATED at bacterial SURFACE
  • The PROTEINS INITIATE a sequential ENZYME CASCADE
  • Enzymes LYSE pathogen cell membranes.
  • Enzymes regulate inflammation by
    - chemotaxis (movement in response to chemicals)
    - microbial opsonisation (marked for ingestion by phagocytes)
