what is hair made of? what does it consist of?

A
  • made of keratinized dead cells produced inside hair follcile
  • the hair shaft projects from follcile

it consists of:

arrector pili muscle
- contraction produces goosebumps and insulation

root hair plexus

  • collection of sensory nerves on base of each hair follicle
  • heightens sensation

what do eccrine sweat glands do?

A
  • found in most parts of skin
  • secretes watery secretions on skin surface
  • important for thermoregulation and secretion
  • some antibacterial action

  • found in armpit, groin and around nipple
  • sticky, oily, odorous secretions into base of hair follicle
  • influenced by hormones e.g. breastmilk
