What are the different ways animals eat?
Filter feeding

What is filter feeding?
Feed by straining suspended matter and food particles from water
Typically pass water over a specialised filtering structure
What is deposit feeding?
Feed by obtaining nutrients from particles suspended in the soil
What is fluid feeding?
Obtaining nutrients by consuming other organisms fluids
What is bulk feeding?
Obtaining nutrients by eating some or all of an organism
What are the types of mammalian teeth
Incisors (cutting teeth)
Canines (hold food for tearing)
Molars (mainly for chewing)
Carnassial tooth (shearing meat, found in carnivores only)
Mastication starts the process of digestion, what does saliva contain?
Alpha amylase
Maltose
What is the small intestine made up of?
Duodenum
Jejunum (contains villi and microvilli)
ileum
What is the large intestine made up of?
Caecum, colon and rectum
Amino acids in the blood can be used for three purposes, name them
1) the creation of new proteins (protein biosynthesis)
2) the creation of non-essential amino acids
3) the production of energy
