what is the transmission model of communication
Sender –> Message –> Receiver
what factors of the sender and receiver could effect communication

A Message
The verbal utterances such as verbal and non verbal behaviours used, that communicate meaning.
Meaning
Thoughts in our minds + the interpretation that the other person makes of our message
Symbols
words, sounds & non-verbal behaviours that are generally understood to convey meaning.
what does the sender do?
Encode the message
what does the receiver do?
Decode the message
Noise
Anything that interferes with the communication of meaning
External noise
sights, sounds, anything that distract attention from the message
internal noise
thoughts/feelings that distract attention from the message
semantic noise
emotional reactions or distractions caused by interpretations of symbols
Feedback
the receivers response is feed back on how the message was received and interpreted, this can be verbal and non-verbal.
Context
The setting - including what precedes & follows what is said
Physical context
Location, environmental conditions, time of day, personal space
Social Context
Type of relationship between people
Historical context
Previous episodes of communication
psychological context
moods & feelings of each person
cultural context
beliefs, attitudes, religion, ethnicity.

always changing, no fixed out come, all components interact simultaneously
what is content
the words and non verbal behaviours used.
what is process
the way the content is used and how they effect the situation or person
