- >100 (more than 3 packs) = POM
Why is there no limit on paracetamol + aspirin effervescent tablets
It must be dissolved to drink thus a person will reach a limit of fluid intake before harmful effects occur
In what ways can medicines be restricted
Reducing strength
Reducing quantity
Changing the route of administration
3 reasons why a drug would be changed to OTC
- quicker relief
- promoting self care
- easier access
3 reasons why a drug would be up regulated
- chance of miss use
- incorrectly diagnosing so prolonging treatment
- side effects
What are regulation involved with codeine and dihydrocodeine
It should be sold to treat moderate pain that paracetamol , ibruprofen and aspirin themselves cannot treat and should not be sold to someone displaying flu like symptoms .
It’s a P medicine that can be sold otc as a solid form however more than 32 is POM.
What must a codeine/dihydrocodeine medication have on the information leaflet
Can cause addiction and headaches and shouldn’t be used for more than 3 days.
Should also state symptoms of addiction
Regulation with pseudoephedrine/ ephedrine
It’s used as a decongestant (clear airways). However only 720mg of pseudoephedrine can be sold and 180mg of ephedrine can be sold.
This is because it can be used in the production methylamphetamine
