Lecture 2 Flashcards
1
Q
What is the difference between scalar and vector units?
A
Scalar- only has magnitude.
Vector- has both magnitude and direction.
2
Q
What does the length of the line/vector tell you?
A
The magnitude of the vector.
3
Q
How do you add vectors?
A
The tip to tail method is used. It is important to pay attention to direction. (+/- or up or down).
4
Q
When looking for a resultant vector, what is a method that can be used.
A
Split the components into horizontal and vertical components. Even if its not a right angle triangle right away, use SOHCAHTOA and make one.
5
Q
Write the steps for the resultant vectors.
A
- Resolve each vector into its H and V components.
- Add the horizontal components together.
- Add the vertical components together.
- Use the Pythagorean Theorem to determine the resultant.
6
Q
Can you find any angle?
A
Yes, just have to specify direction.
