Lecture 18 Flashcards
Lecture 18:
What 8 things must you calculate for an ANOVA?
1.) the means of the subjects, timepoints, & overall
2.) the total sum of squares (SSt)
3.) the sum of squares for the timepoints (SS time)
4.) the sum of squares for the subjects (SS subjects)
5.) the sum of squares for the error (SS error)
6.) the degrees of freedom of timepoints, subjects & error
7.) the mean of squares of timepoints, subjects, & error
8.) the F ratio
Lecture 18:
What 3 things do we need to know for the 1st step of an ANOVA?
1.) mean of each subject
2.) mean of each time-point
3.) overall mean
Lecture 18:
What are the 3 steps to calculate the Total Sum of Squares for an ANOVA?
1.) subtract each score from the overall mean (Mg)
2.) square the differences
3.) add the squared differences
Lecture 18:
What is the Sum of Squares for Timepoints used to assess?
Used to assess variance due to differences between time periods
Lecture 18:
How do you calculate the sum of squares for timepoints?
Calculate the sum of the squared differences between each time period mean & the grand mean (mean overall)
Lecture 18:
What does the sum of squares for subjects assess?
Assess the variance due to differences between subjects
Lecture 18:
What are the 4 steps to finding the sum of squares from subjects?
1.) we subtract the mean for each subject across time from the overall mean
2.) square these differences
3.) add them
4.) multiply sum by # of time points
Lecture 18:
How do you calculate sum of squares for error?
Subtract SS time and SS subjects from SS error
