Lecture 17 Flashcards
Lecture 17:
What are the 3 steps for Bonferroni Correction?
1.) Decide on experiment-wide (family-wise) error rate *usually 0.05
2.) find appropriate alpha by dividing the number of pairwise tests
3.) Compare ANOVA p-values to alpha test
Lectrue 17:
In Tukey’s HSD… What does the “HSD” stand for?
Honest significant difference
Lecture 17:
What did John Turkey realize?
Realized that using independent p-values for a hypothesis with multiple comparisons inflated the alpha
Lecture 17:
What is a repeated measures ANOVA?
When the same subjects are measured 2+ times
- also called “Within-Subjects Design”
Lecture 17:
What a re a few reasons why Repeated-measures ANOVA are better?
- same reasons as repeated measures t-test but…
1.) total variability a group measured more than once is less than if the data came from different groups of people
2.) variability between subjects has been eliminated by using a single group
3.) tends to reduce the mean square error term in the denominator of the F ratio
Lecture 17:
What are 3 Assumptions of Repeated-Measures ANOVA?
1.) Continuous measurement
2.) Data = normally distributed
3.) Homogeneity of variance (variance of difference between groups is about =)
Lecture 17:
What are the 8 Steps to calculating Repeated Measures ANOVA?
1.) calculate means of the subjects, time points, & overall
2.) find total Sum of Squares
3.) find sum of squares for time points
4.) find sum of squares for the subjects
5.) find sum of squares for the error
6.) find degrees of freedom of time points, subjects, & error
7.) the mean squares of timepoints, subjects, & error
8.) find the F ratio
