Lecture #17 - The Power Spectrum Flashcards
1
Q
What does the power spectral density tell us?
A
Shows how the power in the signal is distributed over the entire frequency spectrum
2
Q
What type of analysis is a spectogram?
A
A time-frequency analysis
3
Q
The power spectral density of a wide-sense stationary random process is given by what?
A
Is given by the FT of the autocorrelation
4
Q
Explain what white noise is
A
- Special random process
- Equal intensity at all frequencies
- Flat PSD
5
Q
Explain the other types of noise such as pink noise and brown noise
A
- Pink noise; power per octave is inversely proportional to the frequency
- Frequency increases, the power increases. - Brown noises; decrease by 6dB per octave as the frequency increases.
6
Q
What is a periodogram
A
An estimation of the PSD of a signal from a single sequence of a process.
