Lecture #15 - Spectral Analysis Flashcards

1
Q

Describe how a chirp signal looks like

A

Over a short interval, the signal looks like a sinusoidal, but the spacing between peaks becomes smaller and smaller as time progresses

i.e. increases frequency with time

Q

What does a shorter window do in spectral analysis?

A

A shorter window can improve the ability to resolve events in the time dimension by shortening the window

Q

Describe the consequences of having a shorter or bigger window in spectral analysis

A
  1. Shorter window; better resolution in time frequency
  2. Bigger window; better resolution in frequency domain
