Justin King Lecture Flashcards
1
Q
What are the advantages of digital filters
A
- Simple implementation through computer code
- Performance stability -> analogue components vary with temp etc.
- Adjustable in comparison to analogue filters which requires hardware change.
2
Q
What are the disadvantages of digital filters
A
- Require discrete-time signal - need ADCs and DACs
- Need analogue anti-alias and reconstruction filters
- Speed limitation - fast ADCS/DACS expensive and impractical
- Quantisation
3
Q
How do we reduce the size of antennas
A
Can shift the frequency up and move the signals up in the RF spectrum
Can now have multiple signals, centred at different frequencies
4
Q
What effect does the power amplifier have on the system?
A
PA is nonlinear, will cause ‘spectral growth’ -> adding unwanted harmonics into the system
5
Q
How should we design the transmitter of an antenna
A
- Audio signal
- Shift up signal so you can transmit more signals
- Amplifier using a power amplifier
- Band-pass filter
6
Q
How should we design the receiver of an antenna
A
- Antenna picks up signals
- Filter to get desired signal
- Signals are very weak -> use low-noise amplifier
- Shift down to BB and sample, DSP
7
Q
What is the problem with the design proposed of the antenna receiver?
A
Very difficult to design narrowband filter
