War, society, division of labour, Support more people in an area, more settling down of people
What is the neolithic evolution called?
Agricultural evolution
How did agriculture benefit society?
It started allowing people to explore different crafts/work
What happened in the green revolution? Who was a person responsible for this?
New technologies bloomed in 1950’s. Norman Barlau is credited for these massive changes
What are some technologies and effects of the green revolution?
New cropland, Irrigation techniques, storage, shipping, holding facilities and technologies produced.
What is monocropping? What was its benefits?
Planting the same crop plant without crop rotation. Higher crop rotation, less human labour etc
What are some effects of monocropping?
Depletion of nutrients in the soil, more crops more prone to disease
What are some solutions to the effects of agriculture?
Reduce fertiliser use, Methane inhibitors, Sustainable food consumption
What are the three elements of food security?
Availability, Access to food, Dietary needs and food preferences
What are the elements of availability?
Sufficent quantities of food available on a consistent basis
What are the elements of access?
Sufficient resources to access food, as well as the affordability of food
What are the elements of dietary needs and preferences?
Nutritional value of food. Quality of food. Kinds of food available
What happened to food security through globalization?
Increased international trade. Bigger co-operations began taking control
What are the effects on the carbon footprint that is associated with food?
Seasonality, Transport, Green House Gases
What are the stages of a food life cycle?
Production: Land and resource use
Processing: Raw materials, Storage
Distribution: Travel, marketing

Why will foods be harder to produce in the future?
The rising cost of energy, global warming affecting certain crop growing regions
What are some solutions to food security?
GMO, Education on food, Better distribution of food, policies, support local food systems, food sovereignty

Technology, Distribution of food, Water Conservation, Local Farmers and Land Management, New Policies
