Lecture 13 - Transmission II Flashcards
Variable speed transmissions
Under the assumption of a traction motor with a single characteristic point, various characteristic points or a characteristic curve are obtained at the output of the torque converter
Characteristic map of a 4 speed transmission
Characteristic map of a combustion engine can be generated through fuel supply
• The starting gap must overcome with a rotational speed converter
• The mapping is to be set in such a way that the remaining gaps of the gearbox output characteristic map are as small as possible
Draw the characteristic map of a continuosly variable transmission (13.1)

How are implemented continuosly variable transmissions?
In vehicle technology continuosly variable transmissions are implemented as hydrodinamic torque converters
What is impeller characteristic?
The impeller wheel of hydrodynamic torque converter develops a torque that is proportional to the square of the motor revolutions
What happens with the combination of a combustion engine and a hydrodynamic torque converter?
Only the part coincident with the impeller characteristic is exploited by the motor characteristic map
What are hydro-mechanic gears?
Are hydro-dynamic converters to which a mechanic step-transmission is up or down-streamed
How does the converter acts?
The start-up converter acts as a speed transmission and as a 1st gear, while breaking, the converter is used as a retarder
What happens when filling a converter only partly with oil?
Filling the converter only partly with oil results in an accordinly reduced torque this circumstance is exploited for slow shunting motors
Traction Units on Rail vehicles?
Energy generation: combustion engine
energy transformation and distribution: diesel-mechanical drive, diesel hydraulic drive, diesel electric drive
Motor control in electric machines
b1: electromechanical vehicle control with direct current
b2,b3: electronic vehicle control
