What is cognition?
mental activity through which humans beings acquire and process knowledge, including the functions of perceptions, learning, memory, language acquisition, problem-solving, thought and imagining.
What is cognitive development?
gradual transition from infant to adult mental capacity
What is development?
The sequence and interplay of physical, psychological, cognitive and social changes and continuities that humans undergo as they grow older

Swiss psychologist and philosopher

His theory remains the classic reference point for understanding children’s cognitive development (despite limitations highlighted since)
