5 % of school-age children and 2.5 % of adults worldwide.
Available pharmacological treatments for ADHD are?
• Psychostimulants (methylphenidate and amphetamines).
• Non-psychostimulant (atomoxetine and alfa-2-agonists).
What are the first pharmacological choice for ADHD?
Methylphenidate in children and adolescents, and amphetamines in adults.
How does methylphenidate (MPH) work?
affecting both the dopaminergic and the noradrenergic systems.
Blocks the reuptake of noradrenaline.
Which functions are maybe the core problem with ADHD?
Executive functions.

What do people with ADHD have a problem with doing?
People with ADHD have a problem with separating the emotional reaction to a problem from the reflection which is necessary to solve the problem.
Which gender have more ADHD?
Boys!
What are found in people with ADHDs brain?
Less brain volume in all brain regions.
The most used hypothesis when talking about how the medication works for ADHD?
The medication inhibits the dopamine, so there is less dopamine for the receptors. By doing that, the body itself develop more dopamine. So the result will be more dopamine for the receptors.
What are the core symptoms in children with ADHD?
The children have problems with not being able to sit still and listen. They are not entertained long by their play. The act much out of turn and interrupts.
What are the core symptoms in adults with ADHD?
They have inattention (incomplete details, forget appts, lack of foresight), subjective feelings of restlessness and impatience, premature decision making.
What is the difference between adults and children with ADHD?
They get better at restricting themselves and controlling themselves. It is more inside them than for the rest to see – I think.
