lecture 12 Flashcards
1
Q
tunica intima
A
- innermost layer made up of endothelial cells
- separated by the basal lamina from the subendothelial layer
- separated from tunica media by a layer of elastic fibers called the internal elastic lamina which has fenestrations that allow for diffusion
2
Q
tunica media
A
- consists of primarily smooth muscle cells
- in arteries, extends from internal elastic lamina to the external elastic lamina
3
Q
tunica adventitia
A
- composed of connective tissue
- vasa vasorum, supply the vessel’s wall
4
Q
innervation of blood vessels
A
unmyelinated sympathtic nerve fibers that use NE for vasoconstriction
5
Q
continuous capillary
A
- numerous pinocytotic vesicles (except in nervous tissue) , but no fenestrae
- found in muscle, connective tissue, exocrine glands, and nervous tissue
6
Q
fenestrated capillary
A
- large openings called fenestrae in their cytoplasm
- covered by thin diaphragms
- found in kidney, intestine, and endocrine glands
7
Q
sinusoidal capillaries
A
- greatly dilated lumen, basal lamina is discontinuous
- found in liver, bone marrow, and spleen
