lecture 10 Flashcards
cardiovascular system
transports blood throughout the body. Include heart, blood vessels (arteries, veins, and blood capillaries)
lymphatic system
transports lymph from the body tissues to the venous system
arteries
transport blood away from the heart
large arteries
- elastic
- aorta, brachiocephalic trunk, left subclavian artery, left common carotid artery, and pulmonary trunk
medium arteries
- muscular, distributing
- vertebral and external carotid artery
resistance vessels
- arterioles that are major determinants of systemic blood pressure
terminal arteries
do not anastomose with other arteries
true terminal
- supply the retina
functional terminal arteries
- supplies segments of brain, liver, kidney, spleen, and intestine
peripheral arteries palpation
- best heard that are close to the surface of the body
- carotid, brachial, radial, and femoral
veins
- capacitance vessels, 80% of blood in veins
- more numerous than arteries
- accompanying veins or venae comitantes form a network surrounding deep arteries
arterial distribution to head
aorta
- brachocephalic trunk, common carotid, and vertebral arteries
arterial distribution to brain
- cerebral arterial circle of willis. vertebral and internal carotid arteries form this circle
arterial distribution to upper limbs
- aorta to brachiocephalic trunk to subclavian artery to axillary artery
- only right side has brachiocephalic trunk
arterial distribution to heart
aorta to coronary arteries
arterial distribution to kidneys
abdominal aorta to renal arteries
arterial distribution to digestive tract
- abdominal aorta to celiac trunk. stomach, liver, and spleen
- abdominal aorta to superior mesenteric artery. small intestine and part of the large intestine
- abdominal aorta to inferior mesenteric artery. part of the large intestine
arterial distribution to pelvis and perineum
aorta to common iliac arteries to internal iliac arteries
arterial distribution to lower limbs
aorta to common iliac arteries to external iliac arteries to femoral arteries
venous drainage of the head
internal jugular veins to brachiocephalic veins to superior vena cava
venous drainage of the upper limbs
axillary veins to subclavian veins to brachiocephalic veins to superior vena cava
venous drainage of the heart
coronary veins to RA
venous drainage of the kidney
portal hepatic veins to hepatic veins to inferior vena cava
venous drainage of the lower limbs
great and small saphenous veins to femoral veins to external iliac veins to inferior vena cava
lymphatic vessels are not present in…
hard tissues of teeth, bone marrow, cartilage, epithelia, and the brain
thoracic duct
- carries lymph from the lower limbs, abdominal walls, and viscera
left jugular trunk
carries lymph from the left side of the head and neck
left subclavian trunk
carries lymph from the left upper limb and superficial tissues of the left half of the thoracoabdominal wall
left bronchomedistinal trunk
carries lymph from part of the left thoracic wall, the left cupola of the diaphragm, left lung, bronchi, trachea, most of esophagus and heart
superficial lymph nodes
pre-auricular, parotid, and occipital
