Lecture 11 - Neurotransmitters Flashcards

Q

NTs can be classified as Small Molecule or Peptide NTs.

Where within the cell are each made, and how do the vesicles they’re stored in look?

A

Small Molecule NTs are made in the cytoplasm of the Axon terminal by Enzymes that are made in the Golgi of the cell Soma and transported to the Axon terminal. Their vesicles appear clear.

By contrast, Peptide NTs are made in the golgi in the Soma of the neuron and are transported to the axon terminal. Their vesicles appear dark.
