Lecture 11 - Foot Flashcards
What is the blood supply and innervation (differentiate cutaneous and motor) of the dorsum of the foot?
RL11 S32
Blood supply:
- anterior tibial artery
- arcuate artery
- deep plantar artery
Nerve supply:
- superficial peroneal nerve (cutaneous)
- deep peroneal nerve (lateral is motor; medial is cutaneous)
- sural nerve (cutaneous)
What is the extensor retinaculum and what tendons does it enclose?
RL11 S32
“Y” shaped tendon with stem on lateral side
Encloses:
- extensor digitorum longus
- extensor hallucis longus
- tibialis anterior
What are the muscles of the dorsum of the foot?
RL11 S32
- extensor digitorum brevis
- extensor hallicis brevis
- dorsal interossei
What is the blood supply and innervation of the sole of the foot?
RL11 S33
Blood supply:
- posterior tibial artery
- perforating arteries
Cutaneous innervation:
- tibial nerve
- saphenous nerve
- sural nerve
Motor:
-tibial nerve (lateral and medial plantar)

What are the muscles of the fourth layer of the sole of the foot?
RS11 L38
- dorsal interossei
- plantar interossei
What is the axis of abduction and adduction in the foot?
RL11 S39
