lecture 10: effect evaluation Flashcards
1
Q
what is evaluation?
A
it determines the degree to which the campaign reaches its objectives: it helps planners and scholars understand how and why a particular campaign worked and it provides information relevant for planning future activities
2
Q
why evaluate campaigns
A
- determine/understand campaign effects
- figure out ‘best practices’
- to improve and learn from successes and failures
- justify costs/resources used
- determine return on investment
- get public/political support
- show successes to secure future funding
3
Q
article bauman et al about framework of evaluation
A
- pre-program
- campaign planning
- formative evaluation - during the program
- process evaluation
- how objective is being reached - before and after
- impact evaluation (short term: knowledge, beliefs)
- outcome evaluation (long term: reduced disease, improve life)
4
Q
efficacy in research
A
- high internal validity, low external validity
- campaign evaluated under optimal conditions, lab research
- difficult to generalize
5
Q
effectiveness in research
A
- campaign evaluation under real life condition (field research)
- difficult and expensive (drop out, causality, non-compliance)
6
Q
pretest-posttest design, what’s the importance of control groups
A
if showing similar patterns in control region, everybody behaves more healthy regardless of campaign
if different pattern supper succesfull: increase in campaign while decrease in control
7
Q
why do people evaluate?
A
- to justify efforts
- input for future campaigns
- theory development
8
Q
how do they evaluate
A
- pretest posttest
- annual monitoring data of health behaviors
- formative evaluation (pre-program)
