LECTURE 10 Flashcards
Embodied cognition
Emphasises the physical body in creating action. These cognitive processes are distributed across the brain, body and environment.
Limitation to embodied cognition
Ignores receptors within our body which emphasise sensory experience
Positive to embodied cognition
Predicts future states based on bodily interactions with the environment by incorporating experiences.
Factors influencing how fast we can react
Number of choices available, type of stimuli received, age, sex, what stream the information is being received in
Predictive processing
Comparing the predicted future to what we currently perceive. Our brains way of taking shortcuts.
Active Inference
Humans move to perceive better. Active inference is movement sharpening the ability to perceive the environment around you.
What will humans do when balance is challenged to maintain postural control?
Upweight sensory input
How does anxiety effect motor control?
Due to predictive processing we become hypervigilant as we can no longer predict absence of threat confidently. Leads to choking.
