Lecture 1: Intro to Ocular Anatomy Flashcards
what is the anatomic position?
the human body position from which all anatomical terms are derived
- Head, gaze, and toes facing forward
- Arms relaxed at the side with palms facing forward
- Lower limbs close together with feet parallel
what are the 3 anatomical planes?
- sagittal plane
- coronal (frontal)
- transverse (horizontal)
what is the difference between mid-sagittal and para-sagittal?
Median Plane (Mid-sagittal Plane) - Vertical plane passing longitudinally through body (sagittal plane through midline) - Right and left halves
(Para) Sagittal Plane
• Vertical plane parallel to the median
plane
• Right and left sides
what does the coronal (frontal) plane divide the body into?
anterior and posterior halves
what does the coronal transverse plane divide the body into?
superior and inferior halves
Anterior or Ventral: direction?
towards the front
Posterior or Dorsal: direction?
towards the back
Superior or Cranial: direction?
towards the head
Inferior or Caudal: direction?
away from head
Medial: direction?
towards midline
Lateral: direction?
away from midline
Proximal: direction?
near the point of origin
Distal: direction?
away from point of origin
Outer (external):
farther away from the center of an organ
Inner (internal):
nearer the center of an organ
