Lecture 1: Eye Structures Flashcards
What are the layers of the tear film? What produces each layer?
Cornea:
Mucin Layer: Goblet cells in conjuctiva, attaches water layer to eye.
Water layer: Lacrimal glands, lubes, washes and forms even surface.
Oil layer: Meibomian glands, prevents evaoouration
Whats the corneal anatomy?
Epithelium (Barrier)
Stroma (Collagen)
Endothelium (dehydrates (relative))
Describe how the accomodation reflex functions:
Far: Ciliary muscle relax (Diam increase) and zonules become tight so lens is flatter
Close: Ciliary contract (diam decreases) and zonules loosen, lens is more convexed.
What side is the fovea and optic nerve on?
Optic nerve is always nasal, fovea is temporal
Whats this?
Superior retinal detatchment
What are the eye muscles and what do they do?
- Medial rectus. Adducts.
- Lateral rectus. Abducts. CN6
- Superior rectus. Elevates.
- Inferior rectus. Depresses.
- Superior oblique. Intorts. depresses, abducts. (CN4), passes through trochlea… trochlea nerve
- Inferior oblique. Extorts. elevates, abducts.
