What are the layers of the tear film? What produces each layer?

A

Cornea:

Mucin Layer: Goblet cells in conjuctiva, attaches water layer to eye.

Water layer: Lacrimal glands, lubes, washes and forms even surface.

Oil layer: Meibomian glands, prevents evaoouration

A

Epithelium (Barrier)
Stroma (Collagen)
Endothelium (dehydrates (relative))

Describe how the accomodation reflex functions:

A

Far: Ciliary muscle relax (Diam increase) and zonules become tight so lens is flatter

Close: Ciliary contract (diam decreases) and zonules loosen, lens is more convexed.

A

Optic nerve is always nasal, fovea is temporal

What are the eye muscles and what do they do?

A
  • Medial rectus. Adducts.
  • Lateral rectus. Abducts. CN6
  • Superior rectus. Elevates.
  • Inferior rectus. Depresses.
  • Superior oblique. Intorts. depresses, abducts. (CN4), passes through trochlea… trochlea nerve
  • Inferior oblique. Extorts. elevates, abducts.
