Primary lesions
Macule, papule, plaque, pustule, vesicle, bulla, nodule, wheal, tumor
Macule
Area of skin altered in color but not elevated
Papule
Solid raised lesions less than 1 cm
Plaque
Solid raised lesion with flattened top greater than 1 cm
Pustule
Elevated lesion filled with pus
Follicular (demodex, dermatophytes, staph) vs non follicular (flea, contact, food, scabies, autoimmune)
Vesicle
Blister less than 1 cm
Caused by acute contact and some autoimmune diseases
Bulle
Blister greater than 1 cm
Caused by burns, contact, drug, autoimmune
Nodule
Firm lesions extending into dermis or subq
Tumor
Swelling or enlargement
Wheal
Skin elevation produced by a edema
Test with diascopy
Secondary lesions
Epidermal collarettes, scale, crusts, scar, ulcer, excoriation, lichenifications, hyperpigmentation, hyperkeratosis
Epidermal collarette
Secondary lesion from pustule
Scale
Flake of abnormal or compacted epithelial cells
Crust
Dried exudate
Scar
Fibrotic area resulting from healing of wound
