What is physical pain?
-A result of some sort of chemical or mechanical injury leading to tissue destruction
What is psychological pain?
-An unpleasant feeling of a non-physical nature
What is one of the first goals in deciding how to manage patients with pain?
- Are they physically able to tolerate what is going on (sitting for a long period of time) ( Heart rate and blood pressure can increase on people during a procedure)
- Are they physiologically able to tolerate
- Is psychosedation necessary (pinching between your thumb and index finger)
What are three aspects of a physical evaluation used during patient assessment?
- Medical history questionnaire
- Physical examination
- Dialogue history (patient interview)
What is objective information that is measurable “as the doctor sees it”?
-Physical examination
What are parts of the physical examination of patients?
- Vital signs (heart, lungs, temp)
- Visual inspection (body movements, speech, skin)
What ASA classification has moderate systemic disease?
-ASA III
If you are 61 and healthy what ASA class are you?
-ASA II (60 +)
