allows you to restrict your results where your search term appears in a specified part of a document

Ovid- select multiple field search tool
Ebscohost - select the advance search tool
What is truncation?
Allows you to find alternative endings to the words
How is truncation used?
At the end of the word put a *
What is wildcard?
Wildcard technique allows you to search for words with alternative spellings
How is wildcard used?
By placing a ? symbol example

What is phrase searching?
You can decide to look for results where a specific phrase appears in a document
How is phrasing search used?
With speech marks around the phrase
e.g “Visual Impairment”
What is proximity search?
A technique that allows you to find documents where your search term appears close together in the document , by placing PROXIMITY OPERATOR BETWEEN THEM
How is proximity search used?
With a adj5 symbol in between.
e.g vision adj5 disorder
How do you use proximity in ovid and ebscohost?
Ovid online - use prefix adj (stands for adjacent)
ebscohost- use prefix N (stands for near)
What do you do if you have too many results ?
Use limit/ refine option which will limit your search

What is citation search?
Involves finding other articles which have cited key documents you have found

Involves finding references which key documents you have found have used themselves.
