[Lec 9] Key Terms: Splicing Flashcards
introns
intervening sequences in the coding DNA that has been removed
exons
sequences that remain in the mRNA
alternative splicing
different proteins encoded by same gene
snRNPs
recognize the 5’ splice site and branch site; brings branch site and 5’ splice site together; catalyzes the RNA to cleave and join reactions
U2AF
made up of 2 subunits; binds to py tract and smaller subunit binds to 3’ splice site; larger interacts with BBP and helps protein bind to branch site (early branch site)
U2
binds to branch site, aided by U2AF and displaces BBP; known as A complex
U4, U5, and U6
tri-snRNP particles that makes the B complex
Exon Shuffling
overlaps with functional domains of protein (individually folding domains)
