Lec 7 Eye Flashcards
What kind of fibers does the greater petrosal nerve (branch of CN7) carry?
preganglionic parasympathetic fibers
The greater and deep petrosal nerves combine to form what nerve?
Vidian nerve (nerve of the pterygoid canal)
What does the chorda tympani do and where does it come from?
- taste to anterior 2/3 of tongue
- peels of CN7 and rides with the lingual nerve
What nerve supplies the superior oblique of the eye?
trochlear nerve (CN IV)
What nerve supplies the lateral rectus of the eye?
abducent nerve (CN VI)
What nerve supplies the majority of the muscles of the eye (levator palpebrae superioris, inferior oblique, superior rectus, inferior rectus, and medial rectus)?
oculomotor nerve (CN III)
What is the action of the levator palpebrae superioris?
elevates superior eyelid
What is the action of the inferior oblique?
abducts, elevates, and laterally rotates eyeball
What is the action of the superior oblique?
abducts, depresses, and medially rotates eyeball
What is the action of the superior rectus?
elevates, adducts, and rotates eyeball medially
What is the action of the inferior rectus?
depresses, adducts, and rotates eyeball laterally
What is the action of the medial rectus?
adducts eyeball
What is the action of the lateral rectus?
abducts eyeball
What cranial nerve supplies parasympathetics to the ciliary ganglion?
CN III
What cranial nerve supplies parasympathetics to the pterygopalatine ganglion?
CN VII
