Lec 5: Integumentary System Flashcards
Dermis
Composed of dense collagenous connective tissue, contain collagen and elastic fiber
Dermis
Dense collagenous connective tissue contains:
fibroblast, Adipocytes and macrophages
Contain organs:
Nerves, hair follicles, smooth muscles, glands and lymphatic vessels
Responsible for the strength of dermis
Collagen and elastic fiber
Collagen fibers are oriented in some direction; skin is most resistant to stretch along these lines
Cleavage lines or tension lines
Upper part of dermis, connects dermis to epidermis, which contain many blood vessels
Dermal papillae
Delivers material to blood slowly, inserting small needle at a shallow angle into dermis (tuberculin skin test)
Intradermal injection
Pinching the skin to form a “tent”, inserting small needle into adipose tissue of hypodermis (insulin injection)
Subcutaneous injection
Delivers material to blood faster, inserting a long needle at a 90-degree angle to skin into muscle (most vaccine and antibiotics)
Intramuscular injection
