Lec 4 Cervix Flashcards
What is the high incidence area for development of cervical squamous intrapeithelial lesions?
trasnformation zone
What is histology of part of cervix facing vagina?
exocervix = stratified squamous overlying fibromuscular tissue
What lines the endocervical canal?
columnar mucinous epithelium
What is the squamocolumnar junction?
region in cervix with exocervix squamous tissue meets endocervix columnar epithelium = transformation zone
What happens over time to transofrmation zone?
have squamous metaplasia –> transformation/junction zone goes higher and higher up
What are risk factors for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia [CIN] = precacncerous lesion of cervix?
- sex at early age
- multiple partners
- high ris male partner
- multiple pregnancies
- cigarette smoking
- immunosuppression
- history of STI

What kind of discharge with gardnerella?
thin and gray
What kind of discharge with chlamydia?
purulent discharge
What is pathogenesis of HPV in cancer?
promoter [not initiator] of dysplasia and carcinoma
What is CIN I?
abnormal maturation involving lower 1/3 of epithelium
What is CIN II?
abnormal maturation involving lower 1/2 - 2/3 of epithelium
What is CIN III?
abnormal maturation involving full thickness of epithelium
