What are disorders of desire?
problems of hypoactive sexual disorder
- capable of responding [lubrication, erection, orgasm] but lack interest in sexual activity
more common in women
How do you treat disorder of sexual desire?
encourage masturbation and identifying arousing fantasies
improve sexual communication skills
What is sensate focus?
useful for dysfunctions of deisre with a psychological basis = commit to not engage in intercourse and touch each other with goal of working up to touching
What is erectile dysfunction?
inability to attain or maintain and erection = most common male problem for visit to sex therapist
What is etiology of disorder of arousal?
psychological usually
What are disorders of orgasm?
persistent or recurrent delays or absence of orgasm after normal stimulation of sufficient intensity and duration; more common in women
What is the most common reason for women seeking sex therapist?
orgasmic disorder [vs men = ED}
What is premature ejaculation?
peristent onset of ejaculation with minimal sexual stimulation and before person wishes it to occur
What is the most common sexual dysfunction in men
premature ejaculation
What is dyspareunia?
pain during or after sexual intercourse; more common in women
What is peyronie’s disease?
fibrous thickening on one side of corpus cavernosum
What is vaginismus?
involuntary powerful vaginal spasms when penetration is attempted = due to physical or psychological cause
What are some non-sexual diseases that may lower desire?
- thyroid problem
- diabetes
- meds
- antidepressants
