What is primary infertility?
A
couples who tried to conceive but never had a previous pregnancy

What is secondary infertility?
A
couples unable to conceive but had at least one previous pregnancy

What does high FSH on day 3 of menstural cycle suggest?
A
poor ovarian response and non-pregnancy; suggests compromised ovarian reserve

WHat is AMH?
A
protein secreted by granulosa cells during gonadotropin independent phase of follicular recruitment; marker of follicular depletion.
- very high AMH = PCOS
- normal AMH = normal
- low AMH = low number of remaining oocytes

How can you tell ovarian function by looking at it?
A
- measure basal antral follicle count by sonogram; correlates wtih number of primordial follicles remaining

What is gonadotoxicity?
A
amenorrhea > 12 mos
premature ovarian failure before age 40
