Q

What is the difference between the research design and the study design?

A

The study design is part of the research design and it is the design of the study itself
While the research design includes other parts which constitute the research process

7
Q

What is sampling?

A

It is a small number of unit of if selected in a manner to represent the study population, it would provide a fairly true reflection of the population being studied.

Q

The two key aims of sampling?

A
  1. The avoidance of bias in the selection of the sample

Q

The categories of sampling designs and why is the importance of the categories?

A
  1. Random
  2. Non Rendon
  3. Mixed
The type of sampling you choose will influence the ability of making generalization from the sample finding, and the type of test you can apply to the data

Q

what is the research proposal?

A

it is report that tells the reader about the problem and how you gonna solve it and your detailed operational plan and it should reflect the validity and accuracy of your work

16
Q

The way you gonna display your data depends on two factors

A

the type of information you want to display

The way you want to communicate your findings to the readers

17
Q

The way of displaying the qualitative analysis

A
  1. Manually analyze the content of your notes

2. Using computer programs like NVivo and ethograph

18
Q

The way of displaying the quantitative analysis

A
  1. Frequency distribution, cross tabulation, regression analysis, factor analysis , variance analysis.
  2. Identify the variables to be subjected to statistical procedure.
19
Q

What should a research proposal include?

A

Objectives, hypotheses, study design, instruments, setting, sample size, sampling design, problems and limitations, time frame , data processing procedure, outline of proposed chapters

20
Q

The last step is writing the research report which for some is the hardest and it should include what you have done and what you have discovered and the conclusion of your findings and it should be written in an academic way divided into chapters based on the main theme of your research

A
21
Q

What are the literature reviewing functions ?

A
  1. Provides theoretical background. To your study.
  2. Establish links between what you are proposing to examine and what you have already studied.
3 show how your findings contribute to the existing body of knowledge and also integrate them together
22
Q

The literature review can help in four ways

A
  1. Broaden your knowledge
  2. Improve your methodology
  3. Contextualize your findings
  4. Brings to your research problem clarity and focus
23
Q

How reviewing literature will help you in bringing clarity and focus to your research?

A
  1. It will help you in conceptualizing your problem and making your research relevant and pertinent to the field
  2. It also helps you know what aspects have been examined and what did they found out and what are the gaps they have identified and their suggestions
  3. Help you know the gaps in the existing body of knowledge thereby enhancing it in relevance.
24
Q

What to do if you do not have a specific research problem? And what is the danger when reviewing a literature ?

A

Start reviewing the literature in the broad area of your interest. With the aim of gradually narrowing it down until the RL reaches the specific problem you want to study
The danger is present when you don’t have any reasonably specific idea about what you want to study which will result in having less innovative
research problems and methodology.
So you should try to conceptualize your research problem before starting to RL

25
Q

What are the four steps involved in conducting LR?

A
  1. Searching for existing literatures to review in your area of study
  2. Start reviewing
  3. Develop a theoretical framework
  4. Develop a conceptual framework
26
Q

What are the most difficult steps in reviewing literature ?

A

Developing conceptual and theoretical framework

27
Q

What is the difference between theoretical and conceptual framework?

A

theoretical is based on theories and help in relating your specific problem in general
The conceptual framework is developed by the researcher and assist in finding the answer for the problem

28
Q

Electronic catalogue

A

ease your search on the internet using keywords

29
Q

Boolean logic

A

Allow three type of basic search and not or which narrow your search

30
Q

The conceptual framework

A

It grows from the theoretical frame work to become the basis of your research

31
Q

Tips while writing the literature review

A
  1. Should be thematic in nature follow a specific theme
  2. should follow logical progression (sequence)
  3. Arguments followed by quotations and citations
  4. adhere to acceptable academic referencing style
