lec 3 Flashcards
The palatine aponeurosis is formed by
tensor vili palatini
The muscles attached to the aponeurosis include
extrinsic --> levator veli palatine palatopharyngeal palatoglossuse intrinsic--> musculus uvulae
Tensor veli palatine action
Acting on both sides, they tighten the palatine aponeurosis, so that other muscles can alter the position of the soft palate.
Also, it opens the austachian tube to equalize air pressure between nasal cavity and middle ear.
Levator veli palatine action
Bilateral contraction of the levator veli palatine, pulls the soft palate upwards and backwards, shut off the nasal part of the pharynx from the oral part.
Also, opens the austachian tube, and permits equalization of air pressure between nasal cavity and middle ear
action of palatopharyngeous
Acts with the stylopharyngeus and sulpingopharyngeus, to elevate the pharynx
and larynx during swallowing so that the pharynx becomes shorter
The tensor veli palatini muscle is supplied by
mandibular n.
all the muscles of soft palate are innervated by———except———
pharyngeal plexus , tensor veli palatini
Sensory Innervation of the Palate
greater + lesser palatine - nasopalatine (maxillary)
glossopharyngeal (only soft palate)
Blood Supply of the Palate
Greater Palatine artery (branches of maxillary artery).
Ascending palatine artery (branch of facial artery).
Ascending pharyngeal artery (external carotid)
3 longitudenal muscles in the wall of pharynx
stylopharyngeus
palatopharyngeus
salpingopharyngeus
the gap btw superior and middle constrictors has
stylopharyngeal m.
the triangular gap btw middle and inferior constrictors has
covered by thyrohyoid membrane
that is pierced by superior laryngeal vessel + internal laryngeal N.
which musvcle does the stylopharyngeus join
the palatopharyngeal
all pharyngeal muscles are supplied by ———– except ————
pharyngeal plexus
stylopharyngeus –> glossopharyngeus
cricopharyngeous –> external laryngeal N.
action of cricopharyngeus
act as a sphincter on the lower part of pharynx preventing air from entering
