lec 17 Flashcards
Distinguish intrinsic and extrinsic/augmented feedback
Intrinsic = touch, proprioception, vision, audition
Extrinsic/augmented = knowledge of results e.g. coach, or device that measure performance.
- Motivational role “good job”
- Direct attention to certain things that need improvement or done well
- Informational role - provide accuracy info
- Dependancy role - can create a dependance on info
Know the 4 functions of augmented feedback
- Motivational role “good job”
- Direct attention to certain things that need improvement or done well
- Informational role - provide accuracy info
- Dependancy role - can create a dependance on info
Distinguish KR and KP
KR = knowledge of result
KP = knowledge of performance
Both types of augmented feedback
KR is concerned with the outcome/end result. e.g. you were 5cm off target
KP is concerned with the quality of the movement e.g. “your hand was gripping the cue too tightly
potential limits and compare pros and cons of KP vs KR
KP = knowl of result
KR = knowl of performance
KP =
- more precise and more info
- can be too much info
- can direct the attention inwards which is no as good for tasks
feedback methods result in less frequency but aid learning
bandwidth feedback - only lets you know your off if you way off, otherwise if only a little off, no feedback
why is bandwidth feedback effective
- because it decreases dependancy
- could increase motivation
- could increase consistency by reducing redundant corrections
describe effects of reducing feedback frequency in terms of the guidance hypothesis
guidance hypothesis states that you start to depend on results
concurrent feedback vs terminal feedback
concurrent directly follows execution
terminal delays when you get feedback until after attempt and forces you to think and process your error before getting the result = enhanced learning
relate concurrent feedback to guidance hypothesis
if you get feedback immediately you start to rely on it
which is better, short or long feedback delay
long because process more
