Lec 1-1 Flashcards

1
Q

Stim response (S-R) compatibility

A

degree of learned correspondence b/w stim and response
affect how easy to translate input to response (e.g. thing with stove top burners, more intuitive = easier translation)

Q

compatibility

A

degree which relationship are consistent with expectation (e.g. you expect the burners to be organized a certain way, if they are then it is more compatible, you will react quicker etc.)

3
Q

contralateral vs ipsilateral mapping
which shows faster results

A

ips - same side (left light = left response)
(is compatible, more efficient)

Cont mapping - flipped (left stim = right response etc.)

ipsilateral response is faster

Q

Spatial coding
Spatial relations - explicit vs implicit

A

Spatial coding refers to spatial relations or locations.

exp based on spat pos (stim placed to the left)

imp based on symbol (arrow pointing left)

when stim and codes match there is better translation

Q

are delays in contralateral mapping due to neuroanatomy or cognition

A

cognition because of test done with crossing hands to control for brain hemisphere sides

(when un-crossed, must transmit info to other brain hemisphere, when crossed, not right stim line up with left hand and therefore right brain hemisphere for instance)

Q

if contralateral mapping was due to neuro anatomy, what configurations would show fastest response time? cont ips mapping? Crossed/uncrossed?

A

Contralateral mapping with hands uncrossed would be fastest followed by contralateral mapping with hands crossed

This is the opposite of what actually happens, these are slower

Q

Is response location coded in terms of the effector, or the response goal? how was this tested? with drumsticks

A

Coded in terms of the response goal, tested with drumsticks crossed/uncrossed

contralateral always refers to the response goal (button being pressed, not hand being used) in relation to stimulus.

Q

Is response location coded in terms of the effector, or the response goal? How tested with steering wheel?

A

With steering wheel, asked to focus on the wheel direction, responses to turn the wheel towards the stimulus were always faster. didn’t matter if hands were at top or bottom of the wheel, you were able to focus on which way the wheel was going

shows similar result to drumstick experiment where the response goal (wheel direction) is easier to code for than the effector (hands)
