Learning vocabulary Flashcards
Refers to a connection between conceptual entities or mental states that results from the similarity between those states or their proximity in space time
Association
The diminishing of a physiological or emotional response to a frequently repeated stimulus
Habituation
Is an energy pattern (such as light or sound) which is registered by the senses.
Stimulus
Refers to the first stages of learning when a response is established
Acquisition
Is a classical conditioning term that refers to a situation in which a stimulus that was previously neutral is paired with a conditional stimulus to produce the same conditional response as the conditional stimulus
Higher Order Conditioning
To the gradual weakening of a conditioning response that resulta in the behavior decreasing or disappearing.
Extinction
The reappearance of the conditional response after a rest period or period of lessened response.
Spontaneous recovery
The ability to perceive and respond to differences among stimuli
Discrimination
States that responses that produce a satisfying effect in a particular situation become more likely to occur again in that situation, and responses that produce a discomforting effect become less likely to occur again in that situation
Law of effect
To refer to anything that increases the likelihood that a response will occur
Reinforcement
Is a conditioning paradigm used primarily in the experimental analysis of behavior.
Shaping
Is a stimulus in the presence of which a particular response will be reinforced
Discriminative stimulus
The type of learning that occurs, but you dont really see it until there is some reinforcement or incentive to demonstrate it.
Latent learning
When the solution to a problem comes to you in an all of a sudden manner it can be considered insight.
Insight
A condition in which a person suffers from a sense of powerlessness, arising from a traumatic event or persistent failure to succeed.
Learned helplessness
Method used in certain techniques of psychotherapy whereby the client learns by imitation alone without any specific verbal direction by the therapist
Modeling
He has been responsible for contributions to many fields of psychology, including social cognitive theory, therapy and personality psychology and was also influential in the transition between behaviorism and cognitive psychology.
Albert bandura
An American psychologist most known for his research on taste aversion learning.
John Garcia
A Russian physiologist known primarily for his work in classical conditioning.
Ivan Pavlov
Is an American experimental psychologist. He is the co-creator of the Rescorla-Wagner model of conditioning and is primarily interested in elementary learning processes
Robert Rescorla
He invented the operant conditioning chamber, also known as the —–Box
Burrhus Frederic Skinner
His work on comparative psychology and the learning process led to the theory of connectionism and helped lay the scientific foundation for modern educational psychology
Edward Lee
He was most famous for his studies on behavioral psychology
Edward C. Tolman
An American psychologist who established the psychologist the psychological school of behaviorism.
