Learning theory Flashcards
Classical Conditioning
Ð Food = pleasure
Ð (UCS) = (UCR)
Ð Person (NS) who feeds the baby becomes associated with the food (and so pleasure UCR)
Ð Feeder eventually produces the pleasure associated with the food
Ð CS (person) associated with CR (pleasure)
Operant conditioning
Ð Reward and punishment
Ð Reward = do it again
Ð Punishment = less likely to do it again
Ð Reinforcement and punishment
Ð Dollard and Miller (1950)
Ð Hungry infant feels uncomfortable
Ð Creates a drive (a want/desire) to reduce the discomfort
Ð Infant fed and drive reduced
Ð Reduction of drive/hunger is pleasurable (rewarding)
General idea
Ð All behaviour learned not innate
Ð Children born like blank slates
Ð Everything they become is due to experiences
Ð Behaviourists support idea of learning theory
Ð Classical conditioning and operant conditioning
