Q

How will you measure the success of filling the learning gaps?

A

That depends on the objective and whether it is knowledge, skill or behaviour. For knowledge, then a practical test is not appropriate and likewise for skills a written test would not be appropriate. If you get the objectives, correct then the assessment writes itself.

Q

How would lots of interactive activities affect a reflector learner and what could you do to counteract this?

A

May panic them but they should be encouraged to take part in some way. Have a variety of roles if you do role plays, including an observer role. Allow them to take a minor part until they grow in confidence. Do not give an opt-out option but explain the importance of varying their experience as much as possible.

Q

How would lots of theories and models affect an activist learner and what could you do to counteract this?

A

Sell the benefits of becoming a more rounded learner and experiencing the whole of the learning cycle. Explain they will have time to try things out, but the theories and models will give them a background.

Q

What would you do to make it “safe” for a reflector learner to have a go at new things?

A

Offer alternative roles and put them in a mixed group so they do not necessarily have to lead initially. Sell the benefits of becoming a more rounded learner.

Q

How would lots of time to reflect affect a pragmatist learner?

A

They would probably enjoy it as long as it was a reflection on how they can apply things to their own situation. Reflecting on the practical application of theories would also suit them.

Q

Do you need to cater for every type of learner?

A

The danger is that you try and be all things to all people. Most learners, can for a while learn in a variety of ways that is not necessarily their pwnpreference. Use variety and change the pitch, pace and tone every 20 minutes or so.

A

Those that are motivated , flexible and aware of their own preferences. Also those who know how to become a better learner. It is our responsibilty to make sure we get the learners in the right frame of mind before they attend.

Q

What would you do if you noticed some learners who did not want to join in activities?

A

Swap around the groups and suggest different roles. “Sell” the benefits of a rounded learning experience, where even if you are reluctant, you should have a go. In the joining instructions set their expectations by saying that there will be group work and they are expected to participate to get the most out of it.
