Learning Approach Flashcards
What is Classical Conditioning?
Learning through association, Pavlovs dogs
What did Pavlov find about timing in classical conditioning?
Association only occurs if the UCS and the NS are presented at the same time or close together
What did Pavlov find about extinction in classical conditioning?
The CR does not become a permanent response if CS is presented without UCS then the response will die out
What did Pavlov find about spontanious recovery in classical conditioning?
After extinction if CS and UCS are reintroduced then the connection is remade quickly
What did Pavlov find about stimulus generalisation in classical conditioning?
Once conditioning occurs the animal/human will also respond to similar stimuli
What did Pavlov find about stimulus discrimination in classical conditioning?
In some situations generalisation wouldn’t occur to objects that were too different, conditioned response only occurs to a particular conditioned stimulus
What is positive reinforcement in operant conditioning?
A reward when desired behaviour is performed
What is negative reinforcement in operant conditioning?
When an unpleasant stimuli is avoided by doing desired act
What is punishment in operant conditioning?
Unpleasant consequence of wrongful behaviour
what is the social learning theory
albert banduras idea that new patterns of behaviour could be acquired through observing the behaviour of those around us. and that reinforcement could be an informative function
