Q

Describe the process in Morris water maze

A

tub filled with water that you cant see through, with a hidden platform and drop a rat in there. They find the platform and climb out.
in
control- future they swim towards the plat form and get out. They use spatial cues to orient them.
experiment- lesion the hippocampus. makes them slower but they learn over time.
this shows it is a basal ganglia dependent function
They evaluate what movements are rewading

Q

Is the learning in Morris water maze for rats . with lesioned hippocampus implicit or explcit

A

it is implicit: not a planned movement. They just know its right to swim this way

Q

Do rats with lesioned hippocampus approach it from in the same direction every time new time

A

No they approach it from different directions all the time because they have no memory created to thepath

Q

How did they test for basal ganglia learning in rats

A

take out any dopamine in the animal and the animal cant do any reinforcement learning

6
Q

what happens when you put a rat with no dopamine in the Morris water maze

A

they will swim with no purpose. They can learn where the exist is but do not swim there on purpose

8
Q

How do rats with lesioned hippocampus actually remember to find the platform

A

with the help from the basal ganglia. they know there is value in the action.

9
Q

what is the role of reinforcement learning in rats in the Morris water maze

A

It gives the animal purpose. the basal ganglia can not act to show that some movement has value.

13
Q

Border cells

A

Neurons that fire when the rat is at an east border cell and this is consistent with different places.

have a specific grid sizes and distances from different neurons and rotates when when put in a different lace

16
Q

what are replay episodes in rats

A

they replay the pattern in the maze they in before

17
Q

when do the replay episodes occur

A

usually when its sleeping in slow wave sleep

18
Q

what is pre-play in rats in the maze

A

what happens when the animal is trying to decide what direction to turn. In the brain it looks like different scenarios

19
Q

fire together- wire together

A

other corteses, when ifferent neurons in the hippocampus other oarts of the brain fire too and then eventually the hipoccampus doesnt have to fire for the others to fire

20
Q

schema

A

organisation of related infortmation.
