learning 2- concept learning Flashcards
definition of discriminate and generalize
dis- only respond when appropriate
gen- respond to both
what is peak shift
when the discrimination is between 2 stims on the same dimension it will move even further from the S-
Amount of responding in peak shift depends on
the difference bw the inhibitory and excitatory responses
What is a perceptual concept
trees, birds, humans
long and thin= screwdriver, pencil, carrot
what is a relational concept
same as
-tools= screwdriver, hammer, saw
Exemplar effect
do better at generalizing features on repeated images
What is feature learning
all features shared by only the correct stim are learned
eg. for something to count as a chair it needs 4 legs
What is exemplar learning
Each correct stim is learned independently
generalization of response
Prototype theory
subjects generalize from all the rewarded stimes and extract a prototype (average member)
-respond to novel stim by how well they match
2 predictions of prototype theory
- prototype itself should be learned fast
- all members of the category should change value together
when is it best to use memorization
when there are only a few stims
when lots might be easier to learn the category
What is object permenence
concept of an object continuing to exist when it is no longer visable
